Consisting of four locations-the main processing facility located in Brooks, Alberta, where approximately 4,200 head of cattle are harvested and processed daily; the Head Office and a case ready plant, both based in Calgary, Alberta; and JBS Ontario, a case ready plant located in Belleville, Ontario. The JBS Canada facility in Brooks has the capacity to produce products ranging from boxed beef primals, ground beef, beef trimmings, beef by-products and hides which are shipped across Canada and worldwide. At the multi-protein Mountain Creek Farms case-ready facility in Calgary, JBS Canada produces value-added products including marinated, portion sized, multi-pack options, kebabs and much more. JBS Ontario in Belleville produces fresh meat and seafood products for leading retailers in Canada.

QA Manager is responsible for developing a systematic approach to food safety through Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) programs and ensuring compliance with Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) regulations. This role is responsible for directing QA staff in ensuring absolute adherence within the Service Centre on food safety and quality standards. Provides leadership, training, and direction of QA program requirements (SOP-s, HACCP, CFIA requirements) to all personnel. Reviews recommendations and ensures implementation and alterations to food safety and quality programs for continual improvement. Interacts with Service Centre Management Team on all food safety and quality issues. Is a primary liaison with the CFIA on all Food Safety issues, concerns and required action. Interacts directly with customer food safety staff on issues.

NOTE: This position will be located in Belleville, ON

You will:

  • Ensure the highest level of food safety and quality practices are in place and followed throughout the plant, to ensure production operations meet CFIA and JBS Canada food safety requirements. Develops and communicates policies, processes and procedures to reinforce the necessary focus on preventative measures, identification of food safety hazards, and key actions necessary to reduce risk factors.

  • Maintain, update and ensure consistent execution of current JBS Canada food safety/QA programs, including SOP-s, HACCP and compliance with all CFIA requirements. Ensures JBS Canada food safety programs are reviewed on a regular basis and changes or new programs are designed and implemented as needed.

  • File claims to suppliers

  • Incorporate new products into the HACCP plan

  • Lead the QA team on regularly scheduled audits to assure compliance with regulatory (CFIA) and customer (product specifications) requirements.

  • Provide leadership and direction to all QA staff on day to day testing requirements, pre-op set ups, and provide oversight of compliance to CFIA and company requirements.

  • Instill a continuous improvement attitude throughout the department and an absolute commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction

  • Lead the design and delivery of food safety, HACCP and related training to all company staff related to Food Safety and Quality systems, processes and requirements.

  • Ensure all QA documentation, including corrective action plans and other actions needed to address any deficiencies within the food safety processes in the SC are complete and accurate.

  • Lead the JBS Canada QA team-s involvement on all third party audits (CFIA, or customer audits) and prepare staff / management to participate in these audits as needed.

  • Primary liaison to CFIA inspector personnel in all matters. Work with SC management and the members of the QA team to investigate any food safety incidents or customer complaints.

  • Interact with customer representatives and demonstrate the highest level of professionalism and customer service in addressing food safety issues and/or concerns.

  • Protect the Company's success by ensuring customer protection, satisfaction, defect-free work, and operational efficiencies.

  • Amend Food Safety program to BRC requirements

You Have:

  • University degree related to food science or related discipline (such as Animal/Food Science, Biology/Microbiology, Chemistry/Biochemistry), with 5+ years of related experience in a food processing / manufacturing environment. A clear understanding of relevant CFIA regulations related to JBS Canada-s operations is essential.

  • Experience in developing and delivering organization-wide food safety and HACCP policies, procedures, standards, workflows and best practices.

  • Strong managerial skills, including communication skills, setting and managing performance to objectives, conflict management and dealing with organization change.

  • Experience in use ofin use of MS Office software, with strong analytical skills to review mathematical calculations, prioritize information to make appropriate decisions. Understanding of relational databases, statistical programs, and other tools to compile and interpret quantitative data.

  • Expert knowledge of SSOP-s, HACCP, BRC Standard and CFIA FSEP Program, including knowledge of microbiological testing.

  • Ready to Eat experience and understanding
