With approximately 3,300 employees, JBS Food Canada ULC (-JBS Canada-) is one of Canada's largest beef processors. Consisting of four locations-the main processing facility located in Brooks, Alberta, where approximately 4,200 head of cattle are harvested and processed daily; the Head Office and a case ready plant, both based in Calgary, Alberta; and JBS Ontario, a case ready plant located in Belleville, Ontario. The JBS Canada facility in Brooks has the capacity to produce products ranging from boxed beef primals, ground beef, beef trimmings, beef by-products and hides which are shipped across Canada and worldwide. At the multi-protein Mountain Creek Farms case-ready facility in Calgary, JBS Canada produces value-added products including marinated, portion sized, multi-pack options, kebabs and much more. JBS Ontario in Belleville produces fresh meat and seafood products for leading retailers in Canada.

During the pandemic, we have implemented hundreds of safety measures including offering unlimited PPE, constructing permanent physical barriers, establishing physical distancing protocols, and installing hospital-grade ventilation systems in all of our facilities.

JBS Food Canada ULC is currently seeking an abilities supervisor who is willing to create constructive and beneficial improvements to the lives of our incredible work force. This role plays an integral part within the company where you will help guide and support team members throughout the rehabilitation process to ensure the security, safety, and wellbeing of each individual to promote a comfortable return to their work environment. This is preformed through case management skills, program development, the understanding of our policies within the workplace, and the monitoring and initiation of WCB forms.

We are seeking someone who is prepared to work in a team setting and is willing to think outside the box to create innovative, creative, and exceptional problem solving tools to produce long lasting positive impacts for our team members to thrive and sustain their current employment. This role handles many confidential documents where you must demonstrate detail-oriented skills, independence, and are capable of handling a fast-pace work environment where organization is key.

The main goal of this position is to ensure team members have the resources they need while recovering and providing the necessary steps to be reintegrated back to full-duties depending on the severity of the injury or malady. The abilities supervisor must demonstrate exceptional communication skills to build long-lasting trust-filled relationships with clients and listen to their unique needs and requirements to help sustain and rehabilitate in a timely manner. The abilities supervisor is expected to produce effective case management skills to implement short/long-term recovery programs where team members can return to work (or continue to work) safely. Further, this role will work closely with the Occupational Health Services/Abilities/Benefits Manager, human resources department, safety department, training department, the health services team, insurance companies, physicians, case managers, and union representatives to ensure the best measures are being taken to maintain the integrity of team members within the facility.

As a member of the team, you will be responsible for a variety of duties including, but not limited to:

  • You will engage workers through open and respectful professional communication to understand the medical, social and personal dimensions of their workplace injury.

  • Work collaboratively with workers, supervisors, managers and WCB personnel in order to effectively manage claims to successful conclusions.

  • Identify and assess medical and non-medical influencing factors, functional capability, restriction and limitations to better understand what support is needed to get workers back to work

  • The abilities supervisor is responsible for administrating the contracts and scheduling of the on-site physiotherapy and medical consultant.

  • Attends management meetings as needed, reports on costs and expenses, and deliver presentations within the organization to help reduce claim frequency and promote employee safety and ergonomics, provide weekly update to management.

  • Contribute to a dynamic work environment by identifying opportunities to improve processes and workplace safety.

  • Communicate professionally in both written and verbal interactions internally and externally.

  • Post-secondary education in a related field of disability management, human resources, occupational health and safety or related,

  • A minimum of 2-3 years- recent progressive experience in disability management, claims management, health sciences, or a related field, including 1-year experience leading and administering disability management programs in a unionized environment is required.
