POSITION SUMMARY: The Benefits Specialist answers moderately complex employee questions regarding benefits and LOA’s. Records team member enrollment in benefits and group insurance programs. Works with employees and third party organizations to resolve issues related to eligibility for benefit plans, amounts of coverage, and claims procedures. Effectively coordinates LOAs to include general administration, comprehensive case management and program compliance with the Family and Medical Leave Act and all related employment laws.

  • Responds to moderately complex employee inquiries by phone, written correspondence and/or email regarding vacation, short-term disability leave, long-term disability, workers' compensation, disability, 401k plans, pension and retirement, and other plans

  • Delivers employee presentations on benefit programs

  • Explains and interprets more complex aspects of insurance programs to employees and dependents

  • Answers more complex questions regarding benefits such as pension and retirement plan, and group benefit plans which include life, hospitalization, and disability leave

  • Corresponds with staff at provider offices, hospitals, and benefits providers regarding claims

  • Coordinates the administration of employee benefit programs such as benefit plan coverage, dental insurance, group life insurance, pension plans, and other benefits

  • Consults with and advises employees on eligibility, provisions, and other matters related to benefits

  • Coordinates the preparation of employee benefits booklets and other employee benefit communications

  • Assist with the coordination of annual enrollment process

  • May research, analyze and integrate data to provide information on benefit programs and utilization

  • Administers leave programs and policies in accordance with the applicable federal and state employment laws (FMLA, ADA, USERRA, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, etc.)

  • Independently approves and/or denies leave cases based on relevant medical information. Coordinates and organizes all medical information and ensures that HIPAA and Employee Privacy guidelines are closely monitored and effectively executed

  • Manages all administrative aspects of leave to include tracking hours used/taken and working closely with Payroll to ensure that pay for team members is accurate and correct

  • Manages all administrative aspects of leave and workers’ compensation claims to include tracking hours used/taken and working closely with the HR Service Center and Payroll to ensure that pay for associates is accurate and correct

  • Works closely with associates to ensure that all relevant completed medical documentation is submitted for timely review. Maintains appropriate contact with all associates on leave and coordinates all aspects of return to work for associates on leave

  • Assists with Attendance Tracking and Attendance Reporting

  • Other duties as required

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED), required

  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience, required

  • Ability to make decisions and find solutions to a variety of issues

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office

  • Ability to work with little supervision

  • Ability to work with highly confidential information and situations

  • Experience in FMLA and related state and federal regulation preferred
