We are building our team and looking for a Quality Assurance Manager based at our first production facility in North Denver, CO (Commerce City area) who will help us create the best plant-based protein company in the world. Reporting to the Corporate FSQA Manager, this role will lead the Quality Assurance (QA) functions for the location.

The leader of this area must have deep technical knowledge of inherent food safety risks and be able to develop and lead mitigation strategies to protect the Planterra Foods brand. The Leader must have a complete understanding of the regulatory requirements of FDA – Food Safety Modernization Act. Areas include; SQF, BRC, FSSC22000, food safety programs and policy, quality standards and specifications, sanitation, HACCP, HARPC, FSMA, etc.


  • Develop and implement food safety and quality processes and programs that will assure food safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance at the Denver plant

  • Provide direction, development and oversight of the QA Team Members and sanitation departments, as well as team members involved in new product commercialization activities

  • Apply technical expertise in food safety and quality to the development and commercialization of new products

  • Create and execute department goals and initiatives to maintain food safety, quality, and regulatory programs that meet or exceed industry standards and drive customer satisfaction and sales

  • Provide technical leadership to ensure food safety and quality systems are based on sound science, leading industry best practices, meet all requirements for the chosen GFSI certification scheme, and are compliant with all regulatory and Planterra Foods requirements

  • Build strong cross-functional partnerships with business owners from other teams to obtain buy-in and influence change within and across multiple business areas and promote food safety and quality programs

  • Set standards for Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) and collaborate with manufacturing and product commercialization business partners to effectively achieve those standards while meeting the needs of the business - this includes product specifications and compliance with all aspects of the applicable FDA regulations and GFSI certification of manufacturing plants

  • Develop and implement FSQA manufacturing policies and procedures, ensuring operational consistency and minimizing risks

  • Ensure standards for our ingredient suppliers are consistent and align with our internal policies and programs

  • Provide consultation and advice internally on matters of FSQA

  • Serve as subject matter expert for Food Safety, Quality and Regulatory Compliance for product commercialization, including setting specifications, troubleshooting and resolving quality issues and Raw Material supplier management


  • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Food Science or other science-based curriculum, Master's degree desired but equivalent industry experience may be considered

  • 5+ years FSQA program and people management, including extensive experience in food production/manufacturing facilities

  • Certifications in Food Safety, Quality, HACCP, and FSMA required -- demonstrated, thorough technical knowledge of Food Safety, Food Processing, applicable FDA Regulations, Food Allergens, Crisis Management, Food Fraud, Specification Development, Quality Standards, Quality Systems, Product Commercialization Support, Sensory Evaluation, Sanitary design and Environmental Monitoring, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP as related to the impacted proteins, both raw and RTE and GFSI Certification Schemes

  • Proven experience leading teams including; developing careers, empowering team members, providing functional direction, setting clear goals and expectations and providing performance feedback

  • Ability to travel as needed (<25%)

  • Proficient written and verbal communication, with sound presentation skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively interact with internal/external stakeholders and regulatory authorities

  • This role will primarily work Monday – Friday (days), but candidates may occasionally be needed on nights or weekends

  • Strong project management and analytical skills

  • Sound judgment and professionalism

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SAP experience a plus

The applicant who fills this position will be eligible for the following compensation and benefits:

  • Benefits: Vision, Medical, and Dental coverage begin after 60 days of employment

  • Paid Time Off: sick leave, vacation, and 6 company observed holidays

  • 401(k): company match begins after the first year of service and follows the company vesting schedule

  • Base salary range of $67,000 - 85,000

  • This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s annual bonus plan, the amount of bonus varies and is subject to the standard terms and conditions of the incentive program
