POSITION TITLE: SAFETY CAPTAIN

(FABRICATION )

JBS- SOUDERTON, PENNSYLVANIA

Job Description:

Audit and educat e operations team members on safety expectations and communicate findings with the operations leadership team and Safety department.

Reporting to : Direct report to Health and Safety Manager.

FUNCTION:

To advance the Safety Culture at JBS Souderton by being a key player to the operations and safety teams. Ensure compliance of the safety management system.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be courteous and professional at all times as you will be communicating with all levels of personnel

  • Completion of daily area inspections to identify and address safety issues, including but not limited to (eye wash stations, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers)

  • Conduct daily safety observations to identify safe and unsafe behaviors and communicate/address as needed

  • Responsible for creating work order requests and meeting regularly with the maintenance team to monitor the status of work orders

  • Perform Safety Program Validations weekly, including but not limited to (PPE, LOTO, Dock Boss, Knife Handling)

  • Assist with Industrial Hygiene testing and documentation (CO2, Microtox, Temperature)

  • Validate JSA and authorized training completion

  • Audit restricted duty team members for compliance of restrictions

  • Daily Health Care appointment schedule follow-up

  • Participate in safety improvement meetings and the Ergonomic Task Force committee

  • Aid assistant safety managers with implementation of the Safety Representative committee

  • Attendance of daily Area Supervisor meetings (FAB – 5:15 am, Harvest – 6:15 am)

  • Assist with special projects as assigned by the safety department or the operations manager(perception surveys, audits, other items as assigned)

  • Receive DuPont Stop and Authorized Safety trainings

  • Assist in the preparation of the annual Safety Management System Audit

  • Team member safety advocacy

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Production area, minimal office/clerical time

  • Physical demand of this position include repetitive walking and stair climbing

  • Exposure to various chemicals, machinery, and knives likely

  • Work area includes slippery floors, temperature extremes, and loud noise

  • Generally, works 9 to 10 hours, 5-6 days a week

EDUCATION:

Minimum High School diploma or GED equivalent. Company provided training

No current progressive discipline for safety performance, or attendance.

RELATOINSHIPS:

INTERNAL: Verbal communication with all production areas within the plant, safety and training areas and the quality assurance department.
