Purpose & Scope: This position is responsible for assisting the Farm Manager in the total operation of assisting with Gilt Development Unit (GDU) goals across the farm.

Principle Responsibilities:

Support the Farm Manager with supervision and training of hourly employees

• Effectively communicate expectations and job responsibilities to farm staff

• Be willing and able to perform all jobs associated with sow production

• Develop daily and weekly work schedules

• Coordinating the activity of department lead personnel

• Monitor the appearance of buildings and grounds are neat, clean and orderly at all times.

• Breeding both conventional and PCAI

• Boar management

• Heat detection of weaned sows in crates and gilts in both pens in GDU’s as well as crates

• Semen management

• Feeder adjustments and feeding process

• Animal euthanization

Travel: Local travel –

Required Qualifications:

• Strong communication and listening skills

• 2 years previous experience managing or working in breeding

• Demonstrated ability to solve problems and make decisions independently

• Ability to effectively lead a team

• Be a team oriented, self-motivated and positive individual with strong work ethics

• Driver’s License

• Ability to efficiently multi-task in a fast-paced environment

• Familiarity with common swine diseases and medications is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications: BS Animal Science
